A UFC FIGHT ON THE WHITE HOUSE LAWN

This is one for the history books.

I drove ten hours in an old car with AC that worked only intermittently just to ask people what the UFC fight on the White House lawn means to them. Here are a few headlines about how others are talking about it.

I’ve had a week to wrap my head around how absurd it is to write the sentence:

“There’s a UFC fight on the White House lawn.”

And I’m still processing it.

To me, it symbolizes violence, greed, and subjugation.

To our Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, it symbolizes “unity, diversity, and American power.”

There’s also an online gambling platform called Polymarket that is surely not doing anything shady.

Remember when a U.S. serviceman involved in the attempted extraction of Venezuela’s president gambled on the outcome of that mission, won $400k, and got busted? I imagine there are at least a few people doing the exact same thing here.

Today I’ll talk to the people who showed up — why they’re here, what they think this moment means for America, and whether they believe it’s going to shape our future.
