Who Is Asher Perlman? Comedian, New Yorker Cartoonist & Colbert Writer
Meet Asher Perlman.
In 2025 I photographed Asher and Jordan Klepper during their performance at Clowes Memorial Hall in Indianapolis.
You might recognize Jordan from The Daily Show or his late‑night run on Comedy Central. What you probably don’t know is that Asher was one of the writers helping shape the jokes behind those shows. He’s the kind of person whose work you’ve laughed at long before you knew his name.
Until May 21st, 2026, Asher was also part of the writing team at The Late Show with Stephen Colbert — a run that ended only because the show itself did. Colbert’s new chapter lives on over at his YouTube channel
Asher is one of those rare people who’s quietly, almost unfairly talented across multiple lanes: stand‑up, sketch, television writing, and the single‑panel precision of a New Yorker cartoonist. He’s sharp, generous, and deeply funny in a way that feels effortless until you realize how much craft is underneath it.
