A skateboard in Cairo uncovered one of the strangest links between Egypt and the Indy 500 — a 1990s Santa Cruz deck carrying the image of the 1964 fireball crash. While documenting Cairo’s underground skate scene, I found a board that traced a line from Mo Kamel, Egypt’s first skater, all the way to one of Indianapolis’s most haunting racing moments.
